Is ‘Hiring Season’ Approaching?
By: Kelsey Peacock
When it comes to the job search, timing is key. Job seekers often wonder if there is a best time of the year to look for a job or advance their career. Of course, hiring happens all year round, but there are hiring trends throughout the year to keep in mind.
Many believe that the beginning of the year, January and February, is the best time of the year to look for a job. These are the months most companies receive updated budgets and forecasts, so many consider these the best months for hiring.
There are also benefits of looking for a job during the spring season. Mainly because many hiring managers are planning their summer vacations and many companies plan the release of new products and services during this time. Many applicants have a better chance of getting the job during this time because they need more staff for coverage and assistance as the new product or service is launched.
Some refer to summer as ‘slowdown’ season. However, that doesn’t mean there are no jobs available. It may make searching a bit harder, but not impossible. Be sure to update your LinkedIn profile. Many recruiters search heavily on LinkedIn to fill positions in the summer season. However, some employers vacation during the summer and it’s harder to get a team together to make hiring decisions.
Fall is likely the most favorable time to look for a new job. Summer is winding down and work schedules resume to their normal course. Recruiters are focused and have more availability for the interviewing. Everyone feels a sense of ‘refreshment’ after the summer and hiring managers are ready to take on the interview process, make decisions and train new team members.
END OF THE YEAR?
November and December are months that generally have fewer job opportunities. It is the start of the hustle and bustle of the holiday season. Many people are busy with holiday shopping, traveling and planning holiday parties. Some managers are known to put off hiring until the new year.
With the summer coming to an end, we are coming up on a great time of the year for a job search. Hiring happens in waves throughout the year: summer slows down, fall speeds up, so be ready to take charge. If you’ve been waiting for just the right time to make a career change, that time may be now!
